A husband and wife team is investing significantly to expand their north coast dentistry business, Boyd & Logue, with support from Ulster Bank.
Ruth and Chris Bloomer, who have been practising for over 20 years, have invested in the opening of a new dental surgery in Portrush with funding facilities provided by Ulster Bank to support the conversion and fit-out of the former retail unit.
The new Portrush Dental Care surgery on Dunluce Avenue opened last month.
It follows the Bloomers’ acquisition of the long-established Boyd & Logue practice which has provided dental services to the local community since 1972. Former associates at the practice, the Bloomers made the decision to purchase the business when its previous owners retired in 2016.
As part of the deal, the Bloomers acquired the flagship Coleraine surgery as well as a part-time surgery in Portrush, which has now been relocated to new premises in the seaside town and will operate full-time.
Spread across 1,900 sq ft, the relocation of the practice will enable the Bloomers to significantly increase patient numbers due to the additional surgery space. Furthermore, additional dental services and procedures can now be accommodated at the purpose-designed premises.
Between its two surgeries, Boyd & Logue now offers dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, Invisalign treatment, teeth whitening and facial aesthetics, and employs 19 staff who support the practice’s 14 dentists and hygienist.
Chris Bloomer says: “Ulster Bank has been a vital partner to us; first, supporting Ruth and I to acquire the Boyd & Logue practice in 2016 and now providing us with the finance to fit-out our new premises in Portrush. We are extremely grateful for their continued support and the expert advice and guidance from our Relationship Manager, Leona, who kept the project moving forward during a challenging year.”
Leona McNicholl, Senior Relationship Manager at Ulster Bank, says: “Since Ruth and Chris acquired Boyd & Logue in 2016 with our support, they have transformed the practice by growing patient numbers, increasing the number of care providers and introducing new services. We are very pleased to continue our support for their vision as they enter a new growth phase following the opening of Portrush Dental Care.”
Chris says the new premises have provided a platform from which the practice can continue to grow.
“For a number of years now we’ve wanted to develop our Portrush surgery from one that is part-time with limited services to a full-time surgery providing a full suite of dental services and procedures. The old premises restricted the growth potential of the surgery.
“As a result of the relocation we now have the capacity to increase both independent and NHS patient numbers. Greater availability of appointments, increased services and improved disability access have all been warmly received by the local community and we look forward to building on this early success.”
