Celebrate Chinese New Year 2021 in Style With M&S

Date:

M&S celebrates Chinese New Year in style with NEW limited edition, beautifully designed year of the Ox takeaway boxes and lots more…

You’ll be glad to hear the year of the Ox represents strength, determination and dependability – something we’re sure most of us are hoping for more of in 2021! So, if you are ready to go again on NYE and celebrate good times still to come with our most loved Chinese dishes, then come on over!

M&S is the number one choice for supermarket Chinese takeaway all year round, and it’s clear to see why, with our top picks for this year’s celebrations. We know it’s likely families will be celebrating differently this year and perhaps not able to share a meal with those they love, so we’ve incorporated meal boxes for households of one, two and more so nobody has to miss out.

First up is our limited-edition Ox Box (£10 serves 2), containing many of our customer’s favourite Chinese beef dishes including Beef in Black Bean sauce, Shanghai Beef noodles and Crispy Beef. The stunning box design makes that takeaway occasion even more of a special treat. If you’re looking for a drink to match – we’d recommend our Dog on the Tuckerbox “Jammy” Shiraz 2019 £7, a ripe and fruity red from sunny Australia is a great match; no oak, just lots of juicy fruit and of course red is considered good luck in Chinese culture so perfect for gifting or feasting with.

If your celebrations are slightly smaller this year, we’ve proved meals for one don’t need to be glum, with our supermarket-first Takeaway for One boxes (£5 serves 1). The innovative and beautiful design carries through to these stunning serves one boxes, again containing some of our best-selling dishes such as Sweet and Sour Chicken or Chicken in Black Bean Sauce.

When it comes to a drinks match, it must be our Classics Alsace Pinot Gris 2019 £10 – Alsatian pinot gris is a terrific pairing for Chinese food; the rich ripe fruit notes match beautifully with the key flavours in the dishes, and the fruit sweetness and acidity balances with sweet and sour perfectly.

If you want to really lavish yourself and a partner or housemate, then our exquisite Dim Sum Platter (£8 for 18 pieces – ideal for two or as a sharing plate) is where it’s at. Made by expert hands using carefully selected local vegetables, seasonings and tiger prawns, there is nothing quite like this for a true restaurant quality experience in your own home. So why not treat yourself? And to cheers in the year of the Ox, a glass of M&S Cremant de Bordeaux NV £9 is just the thing. A sparkling wine with subtle flavours of red apples and brioche, it’s great for all the subtle flavours in this Dim Sum Platter.

Lucy Sandison from the Global Foods team at M&S said; “Chinese New Year is always a popular moment for our customers, who love oriental inspired dishes and take particular opportunity to tuck into them when it comes to the Chinese New Year festivities. This year, the opportunity to go out or get together may not be possible, but our limited-edition meal boxes and platters really do feel like you’re bringing that restaurant celebration home, and we can’t wait to see what customers think of the products inside.”
