Breaking News: Huge fire at Elephant and Castle

A serious fire has broken out in Elephant and Castle.

A huge amount of smoke can be seen coming from near the train station.  The fire appears to have started shortly before 2pm this afternoon (June 28).

Seventy firefighters and ten engines are tackling the blaze, which is believed to have started in arches underneath the station.

At least ten police cars and a number of ambulances were also seen racing towards the cordon.

London Fire Brigade has told residents to keep all windows and doors closed, and warned others to avoid travelling through the area.

In a video, taken from the sixteenth floor of a nearby block, plumes of black smoke can be seen billowing from the tracks.

In another, a huge fireball bursts from a unit under the arches.

As yet there is no information on any injuries.

In a statement, a Met said the fire was not believed to be terror related.
