Madame Tussauds London hosted some very special visitors as Golden Globe winner John Boyega was joined by his nearest and dearest to unveil his first-ever figure.

Boyega’s figure is the result of a close collaboration between Madame Tussauds London’s artists and the actor who was completely involved in the creation process, attending multiple sittings and finessing each detail with the team.

Originally announced to mark the BAFTA award winner’s 30th birthday back in March, Boyega’s figure stands red carpet ready in an outfit designed especially for Madame Tussauds London by his designer sister, Grace Boyega. Emphasising John’s fashion credentials, the styling reflects the Small Axe star’s love of slick tailoring and his West African heritage and culture, something he is incredibly proud of.

On sharing the unveiling of his Madame Tussauds London figure with his family and friends, John Boyega said, “First of all, I didn’t know my head was that big, which is something to take in, but to see my figure in the flesh is ridiculous. I’m happy to be here and lucky to be in a position to be celebrated this way. Actors’ awards are nice, but getting a figure at Madame Tussauds London means you’re doing something right.

“The styling of my figure was really important to me, and I saw this as an opportunity for my sister, Grace, to come in and create something for the Madame Tussauds London team that merges my love of a good, fitted suit with the beautiful materials that represent my West African culture, and this outfit epitomises me perfectly. It’s snazzy.

“The whole experience of getting a figure was nice and easy but the Madame Tussauds London artists took some really weird measurements that I’ve never experienced before – despite having been measured for many film roles – and I’ve never had my eyeballs compared to another pair of eyeballs. I think the fans are really going to like this figure, it’s been well thought out and designed with love. It looks brilliant, and I really appreciate it.”

Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “John Boyega is one of Britain’s most exciting and celebrated film stars. Big things have been predicted for John ever since his 2014 breakout Star Wars role, but his star trajectory is going even further than could have been imagined. On top of being an incredibly talented actor he speaks for a generation and uses his platform to pay opportunities forward to other young creatives. With a lot of exciting work in the pipeline for 2022 and beyond, now is the perfect time to add this Londoner to our star-studded line-up.

“We have had a fantastic experience working with John and his team. He’s been incredibly involved in the process and we loved his suggestion that his sister Grace design the outfit for his figure. Many will know how important family is to John so welcoming some of those closest to him to see the figure before it goes live to our guests felt like a really fitting way to celebrate this special moment.”

Boyega’s figure will take up permanent residence in the attraction’s Awards Party zone alongside fellow A-listers such as Dwayne Johnson, the Beckhams, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zendaya and Helen Mirren from Friday 17th June. Book tickets at
