Woking conceded their first goals in five matches in a 3-2 defeat at home to play-off chasing Solihull Moors with acting manager Ian Dyer admitting, “the players are bitterly disappointed”.

Two goals from Inih Effiong were the highlight for the Cards but defensive woes cost them again and Dyer admitted he was frustrated after his side gave as good as they got in an attacking sense in an entertaining match.

It turned out to be the last game in charge for Dyer who reverts to his assistant manager role now that Darren Sarll has been installed as manager.

“There’s frustration for us and the players are disappointed, I mean bitterly disappointed, and I think that sums up the feeling,” Dyer told the club’s website.

“It was a good game of football, two teams on the front foot going for it, attacking, all action and I think you saw by the celebrations what a big win that was for Solihull and how tough the game was for them.

He added: “I thought we caused them problems. We started well. We wanted to disrupt them and get in their faces. We had some good moments. We had good chances and you don’t get loads against these teams. The frustration with four clean sheets on the spin, to concede not just one but three, is hard to take.”

The Cards visit Boreham Wood, tomorrow and he added: “They are a good side with a good manager and we have seen what they can do in the FA Cup against higher-ranked clubs. It’s about what sort of performance they put in.

“They are well organised, very tough to beat, and I’d expect them to be up and around the play-offs and so will they. We haven’t fared well against them and so we are probably due one against them.”

The task of leading the side now falls to Sarll, who interestingly has agreed to work with Dyer despite not having previously known him, to see how they dovetail together.
