Married at First Sight UK star Marilyse donates kidney to save her ex’s life

Date:

Married at First Sight UK star Marilyse Corrigan has been applauded for donating a kidney to save her ex’s life.

The personal trainer, who has two teenage sons with her ex, is undergoing an operation on Tuesday as part of a kidney sharing scheme.

The 36-year-old, who appeared in the latest series of Married At First Sight which sees singles marry total strangers on the day of their wedding after being matched by experts, stepped in to help because her former partner has polycystic kidney disease.

When they were together he told Marilyse that he may need a new kidney one day, and she said she would get tested to find if she was a suitable donor.

In 2019, when her ex was told he needed dialysis and a transplant, she stuck to her word but didn’t tell him at first.

After rigorous tests she was told she was healthy enough to donate a kidney but couldn’t directly donate to him.

So instead, the pair are taking part in a kidney donation scheme.

Marylise’s kidney will go to a woman in need and her ex will receive a kidney in turn.

Marilyse wrote about the life-changing day ahead on her Instagram: “In 3 days time is it a very special day because it’s my eldest son’s 16th birthday!

“It’s also a special day for my family, because it’s the day my boys’ dad finally gets the kidney transplant he’s been waiting for…

“Two years ago I decided to put myself forward and volunteer without my ex knowing.

“After undergoing lots of hospital trips for tests, scans etc, I was told I could help him! But not directly.

So that’s where a kidney sharing scheme happens. And now, the operation will happen on November 9th.

“I know that by helping him, it is the right thing for me to do for everyone.”

Marilyse, who is also raising funds for Kidney Research UK, was flooded with praised and support.

Her Married at First Sight co-star Amy Christophers told her: “You’re the best!! Hope it all goes well, love you.”

Fellow TV bride Nikita Jasmine wrote: “Such an amazing, strong woman.”

And former TV husband Franky Spencer, who she married on the Channel Four show and split from following the experiment, praised: “Amazing stuff Maz.”
