Like the Sinaloan singer and songwriter Chalino Sánchez, “El rey del corrido” (his real name was Rosalino Sánchez Félix), Saul Viera had a tragic end been on the cusp of success. nicknamed “The Sparrowhawk”son of Mexican parents, was born on February 14, 1975 in California, United States.
Saul Viera died on April 11, 1998 at the age of 23; was shot to death in the parking lot of a well-known restaurant chain in Bellflower, California. A person approached the singer, who was in the company of his girlfriend (she was not hurt). It is said that something called out to him and from one moment to another, he pulled out a pistol and fired several times at him. The murderer of “El Gavilancillo” was never found.Saúl Viera lost his life at a young age.
After the funeral, the corrido singer was entombed at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, located in Montebello, a city that is part of Los Angeles County, California. On his simple grave is a plaque that reads:

The musical career of “El Gavilancillo” began when one day, in the company of some friends, they went to the famous The South Gate Vineyard in California, United States. Incited by his companions, Saúl went up on stage and sang accompanied by the band. Luckily for him, there was Don Abel Orozco, owner of Parral and Discos Linda, who at that time was looking for a Chalino Sánchez-style singer, who had already died (shot to death in his native Culiacán, Sinaloa).
Later, Don Abel hired him and a month later, Saúl Viera recorded his first album. He became one of the stars of the Parral Night Club singing corridos. However, it was the norteño song “Querido amigo” that gave him great success, as well as “La piedra” and “Flor de Dalia”.
