Top Tips for Sprucing Up Your Garage

Date:

If you’ve got a garage that has been sat for a while doing its own thing and not really living up to its potential, you’re not the only one. While a garage is often seen as a catch-all space, it can be worth putting in the extra effort to create something with it that’s going to serve you much better in the long run, and add value to your home, whether that’s financially or with comfort!

Sprucing up a garage doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive, and doing so can make it a much more enjoyable space to be in, or even prepare it for a conversion later in life. Follow these tips for a well-maintained garage.

 Tip 1 – A Clear Out

Any room that’s going to undergo a transformation needs to be cleared out, and for garages, this step might be even more critical. Junk accumulates, broken accessories and appliances find a home there before they eventually make it to the tip (if they do), and stuff that has stayed in boxes since the last house move—it all finds its way into the garage, seemingly for a permanent home.

The first step to sprucing up your garage is to get rid of all of the stuff you don’t need or want any more, so you know that whatever you are left with is what you need to store. This way, you can get a good idea about what you’re keeping, where you would like it to go, and how you would like your garage to look when it’s finished.

 Tip 2 – A Deep Clean

Most garages will be covered in dirt, grime, and spider webs if they haven’t been touched for a long while, and this will only serve as an excuse not to go in there. Remove this issue by tackling all of the dirt, mold, cobwebs, debris, and anything else that has made its way into the garage so you can have a completely clean sheet of space. You might be surprised how much bigger your garage looks after you have taken this step, and things will soon start to take shape.

If your garage is just brick and concrete floor, you can save yourself time by emptying the room and then pressure-washing everything and letting it dry out. Then you can start from a clean canvas.

 Tip 3 – Renovations

If you want to go the extra mile, a renovation would be the next step to help really bring the space to life. A new floor from Garage Floors will create an excellent base if you decide to do anything else with it in the future, along with a lick of paint to help bring everything together.

You don’t have to do a lot to help spruce up your garage after the clearing and the cleaning has taken place. It’s all up to you how far you want to go and what you will use it for after!
